2027 Award Cycle Opens September 28 !

The SCOAR Workforce Development Program of the Year award recognizes exemplary and innovative training, education, or other career development initiatives, that encourage individuals to pursue careers in the construction industry and/or elevate the construction skills of current craft professionals.

Award recipients receive a training grant, are recognized at SCOAR’s Winter Meeting, and featured in The Voice Southeastern magazine, SCOAR’s annual publication.

Award Categories

This award offers two categories of recognition—one for nonprofit organizations and one for for-profit entities.

Accepting Applications September 28-December 1, 2026

SCOAR’s 2027 Workforce Development Program of the Year application cycle is September 28-December 1. The program includes nonprofit and for-profit awards. 

The deadline for submission is 5 p.m. on December 1.

The Award Guidelines below provide an overview of the program, the nomination process, eligibility requirements, important dates, selection process, presentation, and hints for success.

Award Purpose

The SCOAR Workforce Development Program of the Year Award recognizes exemplary and innovative training, education, or other career development initiatives, that encourage individuals to pursue careers in the construction industry and/or elevate the construction skills of current craft professionals. Award recipients receive a training grant, are recognized at SCOAR’s Winter Meeting, and will be featured in The Voice Southeastern magazine, SCOAR’s annual publication.

Application Process
  1. Visit the SCOAR Workforce Development Program Award site page.
  2. Review the instructions, criteria, important dates, and application form before starting the application process to ensure eligibility.
  3. Gather the documentation you plan to submit (e.g., .pdfs, images, charts, etc.).
  4. Complete all required items—adhering to character counts—to ensure consideration.
  5. Submit your application in full by 5 p.m. on Decemer 1, 2026, via the online portal.
Eligibility Criteria
  1. Applications must be submitted by a representative of a SCOAR member company in good standing. 2. There are two separate award categories:
    a. Nonprofit: industry organizations, building trades unions, public/private partnerships, and other non-profit organizations.
    b.For-Profit: Owners, Contractors, suppliers, vendors, or combination
  2. The application and supporting documentation must be submitted electronically by 5 p.m. on December 1, 2026, to be considered.
  3. Program award recipients are not eligible to apply for the following award cycle.
Selection Process

Applications submitted will be reviewed and evaluated by an expert panel of educators and industry professionals from SCOAR’s Workforce Development Committee, according to the criteria detailed in the WFD Program Award Rubric. Submitted programs will be judged on

  1. Scope
  2. Innovation
  3. Creativity
  4. Objectives
  5. Results/Outcomes
  6. Best practices
  7. Benefit to the industry
  8. Replicability

Applications must be submitted electronically via the SCOAR WFD Program Award site page no later than 5 p.m. on December 1, 2026.

  • It is important to note that certain portions of the submission WILL BE available publicly after the application is submitted. These fields will be clearly marked. The purpose of this is to make outstanding programs available to the marketplace so others can learn and improve as well.
  • Other portions of the application are NOT available to the public. These fields will be clearly marked and will only be used for evaluation purposes by the judges.

Award Presentation Date

The award will be presented at SCOAR’s Winter Meeting on January 28, 2027.

Hints for Success
  1. Submit questions to staff@scoar.org prior to beginning the application process.
  2. Complete the application and gather required supporting documentation.
  3. Conduct an internal review and seek necessary approvals prior to submission as changes cannot be made after submission.
  4. Submit the completed application and supporting documentation via the SCOAR WFD Program Award site page by 5 p.m. on December 1, 2026. (Applications must be submitted electronically for consideration.)
